French legend Claude Makelele has decided to leave his position as manager of Greek Super League side Asteras after just three games in charge.

The 51-year-old former player only took over as the club’s manager in mid-September and has managed the team in three games, winning one and drawing two, but has surprisingly announced his departure, saying the club broke a promise they made to him.
“They promised me full control over the team,” Makelele told the London World. “I will decide who plays and who doesn’t. The transfers are not my responsibility.”
“If you want to sack me because of bad performances, go ahead. This is football, but don’t tell me who should play or not.”
In the last game (against Kallithea) they insisted on putting an important player on the bench. This player has a very low salary but he is the best player in the team. I played him for 20 minutes, he made two assists and we won the game, but the club didn’t want him to play.”
“The club think they can dictate whether he plays ยูฟ่าเบท or not because he hasn’t signed a new contract with the club – I’m using him because of his potential.”
Makelele is ‘grateful’ for the opportunity at Asteras Tripolis, who sit seventh in Super League Greece, and will return to France in the next few days.
The 51-year-old will now look for a new opportunity in management, with his coaching career following huge success as a player.
After starting out at Nantes, Makelele had spells at Marseille and Celta Vigo before signing for European giants Real Madrid.
